About The Action
For the fifth time during the last week-end of September JSC “Lenexpo” and the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport of St. Petersburg organizes the annual public action “I choose sport!”.
The public action “I choose sport!” is a unique event, which is held only once a year, and during which all sport clubs, schools and federations meet in a single exhibition venue and demonstrate the opportunities provided by the city to all those who are interested in sports.
The popularity of the event grows with every year. In 2009 over 30 thousand of St. Petersburg citizens attended the event. Most of them were 4-15 year-old children and their parents.
Sport is first of all health, long life and complete balance of the spirit and the body. Sport supports the improvement of physical fitness, makes a person energetic and cheerful. It makes no difference, what kind of sport you choose – football, basketball, swimming or cycling. And most important is the fact that sport shall include the active rest, which gives satisfaction and joy.
Physical culture and sport is one of the priority trends in social development of St. Petersburg. And the action “I choose sport!” fulfils this social function as it stimulates the popularization of physical culture, sport and healthy life-style in St. Petersburg, supports the prevention of the law breakings and drug addiction among kids and teenagers, large-scale improvement of sport institutions, and opportunity to try many new types of sport for young St. Petersburg citizens.
In 2010 the Action is held on September 4-5, in the “Lenexpo” exhibition complex (Pavilion #7), including the outdoor areas and the water area of the Gulf of Finland. The project will present over 60 kinds of sport, as well as companies producing equipments and providing necessary services for healthy life-style.
The action includes:
- Exposition section: exhibition booths of the city districts administrations, sport federations and schools presenting all sport centers and sections, as well as the city programs of promotion of healthy life-style and sports among the population.
- Interactive areas for organization of master-classes, shows, meetings with famous sportsmen, ability testing, etc.
- Cultural program with participation of young creative groups, invited by districts administrations.
Special events:
- All-Russia competition in street-ball “Orange ball” – the annual event, which has as its primary aims the popularization and further development of street-ball as the most available type of sport in the Russian Federation.
- International tournament in wheel-chair dancing “Continents Cup – 2010”
